Born at Sarce on 24 June 1842, at two in the afternoon. Married at Tours in 1881. He went to Paris and was a concierge there, living in the faubourg Saint-Honore. He died on 2 July 1908 in the rue Pollet, in the eighth arrondissement, and the act was drawn the next afternoon. It names his parents as Michel Courtien and Marie Tertrain, both of whom had died by then, which makes him a brother of Paul and of Justine on a third independent record. His Paris death act gives his age as sixty, which would have made him born in 1848; his birth act shows he was sixty-six. His brother Paul named a son Hippolyte Ariste after him.
