Born at Sarce at seven in the evening on 4 April 1847 and registered the next morning, his father reporting the birth at forty, a farmer of the village, his mother then thirty-three. He became a cook and left for Montreal, where he appears in the city directories from 1875. Married at Notre-Dame-de-Montreal on 11 October 1871. Philomene was born at Saint-Michel-de-Vaudreuil on 1 October 1845, a daughter of Napoleon Larocque and Marie Leblanc Robillard. Paul died on 7 July 1901 and was buried from Notre-Dame two days later; Philomene was buried from the same church in September 1913, entered as his widow. His Montreal records make him older than his birth act does, by anything from four to ten years; the act is followed here, because both parents' names match it exactly.
